Mahler Artwork Contest Results

An art contest was held to encourage listening to recordings of Mahler's Symphony #1 prior to the concert. The aim was to inspire the creation of visual images, to increase appreciation for this music and to celebrate the 150th birthdate of the composer with the live concert which was held in high school South's auditorium. The orchestra's mission is to reach out to our community to inspire and educate with quality performances of great works of orchestral music.

"“In the 4th movement, it sounded like a storm at sea and farther into the movement
there was a more peaceful sounding part so I drew a sunrise (hope).”

“The movement that inspired me to draw this picture was movement 4 of Mahler's symphony #1.
The music sounded stormy and churning, like ocean waves in a rainstorm.
However, there was always a bright point under the dark of the minor...
I turned it into a dolphin carrying a trident.”
